The core value of Intersectional Feminism held by the team at oVertone mandates that we consistently reflect on how we show up within and for our world and communities. We are dedicated to the journey of pushing for radical change by seeking out and including voices originating from marginalized communities directly, and working to dismantle and challenge the societal structures that subjugate, undervalue, and marginalize them. Oppression is layered and bound up by individual actions that uphold the status quo — we cannot experience liberation until we all do our part in dismantling the systems and behaviors that stand in the way of equity.
To be relentlessly consistent in this work, which is critical to driving real impact, we’ve built an amplification platform called Intersections of Beauty. Intersections of Beauty invites and celebrates perspectives, aesthetics, and life experiences within the industry for a more holistic understanding and appreciation of the overlapping and divergent perspectives that make it all it can be. Because beauty isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s FOR all, CREATED by all, and IMAGINED by all.
In our endeavor to amplify voices from as many intersections as possible, we’ve organized a frequent cadence of invitations to our community to feature their stories on this platform. Centralized around high impact moments to maximize opportunities for progress, we will be working with, fairly compensating, and highlighting creators through video interviews, blog articles, artwork, social media posts, and more during these times — truly making space on our platforms for these voices to be celebrated, their experiences shared with the world, and to question and erase internalized prescribed notions of beauty.
In 2021, we look forward to celebrating and amplifying voices from our community around these significant lenses:
- Black History Month
- Gender Equality Month
- Celebrate Diversity Month
- Pride Month
- Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month
- Hispanic Heritage Month
- Disability Awareness Month
- US Elections
- Native American Heritage Month
- Universal Human Rights Month
We are excited by the opportunity to continue building equity, acceptance, and celebration of the intersections among us through the Intersections of Beauty platform. Leveraging our platform as a brand for good is something we have been committed to since our founding in 2014, and it is our intention to continue to listen and further develop our initiatives as we grow.
