Jump Into Vibrant Pink Just Like Julie Tecson
While we believe there’s nothing scary about jumping right into the oVertone hair color of your choice, we can understand that some people might be a bit more cautious about their color. That’s why we asked content creator Julie Tecson (@makeprettystuff) to show us how she confidently committed to Vibrant Pink.
Name:
Julie Tecson (she/her)
About Me:
I love everything related to making things pretty: decorating homes, trying new beauty products, taking interesting photos. When the aesthetics in my life are feeling good, the rest of me is feeling good! I’m also currently addicted to homemade chicken noodle soup, my new pink lemon tree (yes, the lemons are pink inside!), and a good, quiet puzzle night at home.
When was the first time you used oVertone?
I first used oVertone 2 years ago and I used the color Rose Gold Coloring Conditioner. I posted on Instagram asking for good companies for hair color and everyone DMed me that I had to try oVertone! I loved it and have used it 4 or 5 times again since then.
What were you most nervous about before you used it?
I was nervous that it would either not show up on my hair at all or that it would be so vibrant and strong that it stayed forever! It ended up still showing up well on my medium blonde ends, and most colors I’ve tried have lasted between three weeks (Purple) and three months (mix of Red and Purple). I feel like it’s the perfect amount of commitment for me — not a temporary color but not something I have to go get corrected after at a salon either.
Did anything surprise you during your first application?
I was surprised at how pleasant the experience was, if that makes sense! I used to color my hair in other ways and the toxic smell was always overwhelming and my hair was ultimately damaged afterward. With oVertone, the peppermint and rosemary oils make it smell so nice and my hair always feels so shiny and smooth afterward.
How did your results turn out?
I loved my results! I was impressed with how well the color showed up on my hair even though my hair wasn’t BLONDE blonde to start. Since my first time, I’ve also tried a couple of other shades of Pink, Purple, natural red… I’ve become a full-time oVertone groupie!
Is there anything you would have done differently?
I learned the first time that you really need to make sure to fully saturate your hair which I didn’t do quite right at first. I usually color a small section of hair at a time, but it’s easy for some hairs to hide inside the other hairs and miss the color. Now, I make sure to pull apart every section and make sure I’m really covering every single hair.
What was your favorite part about the process?
My favorite part of the process is the reveal! I just love feeling like I have a totally new look afterward and changing up my outfits and makeup to match it. It feels like a nice refresh, and my hair always feels healthier afterward which is a great perk.
What sets oVertone apart from other hair coloring products used?
I love the ingredients in oVertone — shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, peppermint oil, etc. I’m really big on choosing products for my hair, skin, makeup, etc that are as clean as possible. I love that oVertone includes those natural ingredients and makes sure not to use ammonia, parabens, and sulfates. It’s a big plus to be able to breathe while I’m applying it (lol).
How does your hair contribute to your identity?
I feel like a whole new person when I change up the color. I have more of a preppy, sparkly style and personality in general, but I feel like going Pink gives me a bit of an edge. I like to still wear my hair in those trendy loose waves with a good puff sleeve top, but the fact that it’s pink instead of any natural color makes me feel like my inner “sass” is coming out. It’s kind of funny how much my hair impacts how I see myself, but it’s true! Our hair says so much about us.
What is the #1 piece of advice you would give first-time oVertone users?
If you’re nervous about the color lasting longer than you want, I would start with a strand test or start with a cool color like Purple that is more likely to fade quickly! And really keep in mind your starting color. For example, if you’re trying a Pastel color, you won’t be able to achieve a true pastel unless you’re starting with very light hair! Maybe scroll through oVertone’s Instagram to find someone who may have had a similar starting color to yours and see how their color turned out, or even send them a message and ask questions! I love that oVertone now has Toning Conditioners too to help you get your hair back to natural if it doesn’t fade completely.
