Recreate The Money Piece Hair Trend with a Coloring Conditioner Sample
Changing up your look doesn’t have to be a time-consuming, expensive process. A new you is only a few minutes and a few bucks away with a twist on our new favorite hair trend — money pieces!
The Trend
If you haven’t heard the term before, money pieces are face-framing highlights achieved by lightening the very front strands of your hair — so named because they make you look expensive in a super cost-effective way.
If you have seen stylists and celebs rocking this look, chances are you’ve seen it done with lightened pieces of hair, but our take on money pieces can be done bleach-free and in the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is add a little color!
The Process
This may be our most cost-effective color technique ever, because guess what? You can totally create colorful money pieces with nothing but a Coloring Conditioner sample. We originally created these 2-ounce samples as a means to test-run a new color, with just enough conditioner to test a couple strands of hair.
The cool thing about money pieces? They’re just a couple strands of hair.
To get the look, section out a thin strand of clean, dry hair on each side of your face (optional: put the rest of your hair up in a clip or hair tie to keep it out of the way). Grab the Coloring Conditioner sample of your choice — Emily, above, combined Vibrant Magenta and Vibrant Purple for a custom shade — and apply color to each section, saturating thoroughly. Let sit for 10-15 minutes, rinse, and you’re done!
Dry and style your hair as usual, and be sure to show us the new you — tag your selfies with @overtonecolor, #oVertonecolor, and #oVertonehair!
